STATEMENT ON LIBERAL LEADERSHIP BALLOT

24 August 2018

Statement from Federal Member for Mayo Rebekha Sharkie regarding today's Liberal Party leadership ballot.

"In 2016 I gave a verbal assurance to former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull that I would support him on issues of confidence and supply.

"Today the Liberal Party has chosen the NSW Member for Cook, the Hon. Scott Morrison, as their Leader and the Victorian Member for Kooyong, the Hon Josh Frydenberg, as their Deputy Leader.

"The Government still has a majority and I am not aware when and if Malcolm Turnbull will resign from Parliament.

"Obviously the Liberal Party is going through a period of transition.

"I believe strongly in good governance and will be seeking feedback from my community regarding the issue of confidence for the new Prime Minister.

"Supply is not an issue.

"I thank Malcolm Turnbull for his leadership and service to our nation and extend my best wishes."
