Centre Alliance Welcomes Whyalla Development Projects

10 December 2018

Centre Alliance welcomes today’s news that Sanjeev Gupta’s GFG Alliance will invest $600 million into the redevelopment of the Whyalla Steelworks which is anticipated to create 2500 jobs.

“This announcement is welcome news for South Australia’s Steel City and for Australian manufacturing,” said Centre Alliance Senator Rex Patrick.

Three associated development announcements were also made by the Whyalla Council – a new $45 million hotel, a new $145 million intensive horticulture centre and a $6 million green organic recycling centre.

“Both the Federal and State Government needs to work with all the companies that are part of today’s fantastic announcements to ensure the maximum use of Australian content and workers,” said Rex.

Centre Alliance candidate for Grey, Andrea Broadfoot, said the investment in local infrastructure and jobs is an outstanding result for Whyalla and its residents which have shown remarkable resilience over the years.

“It’s a really exciting time for Whyalla with local investment by Sanjeev Gupta and others transforming the future of the city,” said Andrea. “Whyalla is truly a city that is reinventing itself through investment in infrastructure and jobs.”
