Centre Alliance Supports Ending Discrimination Against Students And Teachers

5 December 2018

Centre Alliance is absolutely opposed to discrimination against students or teachers on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

We were today prepared to vote for Labor’s bill, and to support a government amendment designed to give assurance to faith-based schools that they can continue to teach according to their religious tenets. This amendment was identical to Labor’s second reading amendment.

We wanted to strike the right balance for all stakeholders.

No person should ever be discriminated against based on their sexuality or gender.
